Stop Stressing About Your Elf!

Elf on the Shelf
Your Elf on the Shelf doesn’t have to be mischievous…most of the time ours is just silly.

Don’t be so hard on yourself!

It turns out some of you have Elves on the Shelf but are reluctant to use them because it seems like too much work or your efforts won’t measure up to what you see people doing on Pinterest. Give yourselves a break and lower your standards!

Elf on the Shelf tucked in
One of the things I love about EOTS at our house: P tucks him in each night to make him comfortable.

1. Don’t worry about what other people are doing with their elves. Your kids don’t know what’s happening on Pinterest. They’ll think anything you do is great.

2. Every family uses their elves differently. Some go all out with elaborate mischief and others simply move the elf to a new spot each night. According to the book, we’re not supposed to let our son touch the elf, but we do. It’s really neat to see how caring our son is towards Elf-vis. He tucks him in nightly. Last night he listened to stories with us.

3. The elf doesn’t have to move every day of December. Make it a 12 days of Christmas thing or make it spontaneous and move it every couple of days. Keep the kids guessing.

4. Check out the great resources all over Pinterest for easy, fun and elaborate ideas. I really like this pin for 25 No-Fuss Elf on the Shelf Ideas.

5. Give yourself permission to have fun! And if it’s not fun for you, don’t do it. There are lots of other ways to entertain and interact with your kids.

  1. I don’t do it, but if I did, I would put the elf where he can see most of the house and tell my kids that he stays there so he can see you all day (as I know I would forget to move it!) Thanks for linking up with the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Party. I have pinned your post to the Bloggers Brags Pinterest Board!
