I love the 25 Books of Christmas. Opening and reading a new or borrowed book every night in December until Christmas is a neat ritual. It’s a great alternative to traditional Advent calendars. My child does not need another piece of candy and I don’t have time to make an imaginative Advent calendar like ones I covet on Oh Happy Day.
This year my son would rather listen to chapter books so I’m adapting things. I chose one Magic Tree House Christmas title and one classic Christmas book, The Worst Best Christmas Pageant Ever. We’ll read one chapter out loud each night leading up to Christmas. Will we be able to read just one chapter each night? Whether we do or not, it’s one more way to make sure Christmas and reading is part of our daily routine.
