Though sturgeon spawning season is over, we still have sturgeon fever! I thought I’d update you on two new resources we’ve run across to help feed our hunger for more sturgeon!
We found a copy of this book at the library, but People of the Sturgeon: Wisconsin’s Love Affair with an Ancient Fishcan be purchased on Amazon as well. The book, published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press, covers history, spawning, the Sturgeon Guard, spearing, how they fit into Wisconsin’s culture, and lots of photos.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Facebook page has a fantastic post with lots of photos about their recent rescue of a 100-pound female sturgeon that got lost. There’s a video and more photos as well.
