Friendship According to Kids Printable Interview

Best Buds Interview post
P with his current “best” friend

Today’s post is part of the Splash Into Summer series put together by a great group of bloggers. Each week the participating bloggers will be sharing seven posts related to a specific summer theme. This week’s theme is friends.

“Who is your best friend, P?” He thought about it, “I have a lot of them so I can’t tell.” Then, “Can you be friends with your parents?” He didn’t even hesitate, ” Yeah, duh.” Okay, so maybe a better question would have been “Can you be friendly to your parents?” I may need to work on my timing. I see now that perhaps interviewing him when he was deep into making a zip line with duct tape, balloons, string and toilet paper rolls wasn’t the best time. I was just so excited to try the friendship questions I couldn’t wait!

When I was young and had a tape recorder, my friends and I recorded ourselves singing, talking and just plain goofing around. When I was in college and my friends were no longer all in one city, state or even country, some of my friends and I recorded and mailed micro-cassettes instead of writing letters. I love that I have these snippets of my life and my friendships tucked away. Naturally, when P started talking I started recording him. I started with his infectious giggle, then I started asking him questions and interviewing him and I haven’t stopped.

For today’s post, I put together a set of friendship interview questions. Check out Little Red Sanyo (or how to interview your child)  for ways to record your interview. If you don’t want to record the interview, the questions make for fun dinner conversation, too.

Do your kids like to know all about your childhood? P loves to listen to stories about what life was like when I was a kid. I put together a set of questions for kids to ask parents as well.

  1. This is so clever. I like the Parents Friend questions. Especially if you’re child is one that has a hard time making friends (like my oldest son) this could give him some encouragement that he’s not alone in that.

  2. Very cute. And i love that you recorded him. In my spare time, I have a gig as the family restaurant reviewer for a local magazine. I love to probe my kids for their impressions of the restaurants we eat in. They are usually very honest and have great opinions on things. And I have saved 4 years worth of reviews as a sort of family diary.
