Making a Bedroom into a Blank Canvas

Bedroom Art Supplies

Our son spends the majority of his free time working on art projects. He produces so many that I can’t possibly display them all. I wanted to do something simple in P’s room to display his artwork and/or for him to create on. I wanted to do it while he was out-of-town, I didn’t want something permanent, and I didn’t want to spend much money or time.

Simple + cheap + temporary= ?

When I was in middle school my parents covered one of the kitchen walls in paper from an enormous newsprint roll. It was our canvas. To create whatever we wanted. When friends or family came over they added to it. What did we write and draw? I can’t remember a single thing, but I remember it was fun to write on the wall and let’s be honest, who else had parents that cool?

I decided I wanted to do something similar in P’s bedroom. Using 1 1/2 rolls of brown paper from the Dollar Tree, stars Duck Tape we already had on hand, and scissors, I was able to put up a huge blank canvas with a cheery border for our son. I can hardly wait for him to get home to see it. What do you think? Will he like it? I know I would have.

Wall Canvas
Oh, the possibilities!

  1. I’ve thought about doing this but my little ones would probably think that they could draw on ANY wall. Oh, wait, they already do! Maybe when they get older!

    • On the other hand, it might be the perfect way to teach them that there’s only one area/wall that’s okay to draw on and it’s all theirs. Let ’em loose! (And keep the magic erasers on hand).

  2. Howdy! This blog post couldn’t be written much better! Going through this article reminds me of my previous roommate! He always kept preaching about this. I most certainly will forward this article to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Thank you for sharing!
