Walking the Oneida Museum Nature Trail

The sun is shining, the grass is growing and the birds are singing. It’s finally spring and it’s time to start exploring outside again!

A walk on the Oneida Museum Nature trail is just the ticket. My son and I had a great time exploring the trail after we visited the museum last fall. The short trail is marked with informational signs featuring medicinal plants, animals and their relevance in the clans. There are also animal decoys, a maple syruping spot and a runner’s hut.

Wondering why there’s so much purple? Purple stands for peace in the Oneida community.

Short bursts of interesting information spread out along the trail appeal to P because he’s learning while moving. The trail appealed to me because it was so peaceful (aside from P’s activity) under the cover of so many trees. Walking the trail, we’d read and talk about the information on a sign and then he would run to the next one to discover what it was.  It was a neat, non-exhausting way to get outside and enjoy a little nature. Now I’m looking forward to checking out the trail again to see how things are different in the Spring.

    • You should see the area now! They just opened an outdoor adventure part of the NEW Zoo there with a zip line from the old fire tower. Whoa.
