I found one of my first diaries. From 1987. Then Dire Straights’ Money for Nothing was playing on the radio this morning. I decided it’s a 1980s kind of day.
Mark Saturday, January 3, 1987 as the day I became a fortune teller.
“I just think that when I share this with my children that they will think I’m crazy.”
Bingo! My son certainly did after reading the next part about rollerskating with Molly. He wasn’t impressed with my handwriting either, “Ooooh! Bad handwriting!”
Friday, January 9, 1987 will be always be a momentous day for me. It was the day we bought our first VCR and wait for it…color television. Evidently they weren’t easy to set up.
And sometimes NOTHING HAPPENED.
One thing is clear from my 1987 diary; my parents established the field trip mentality early. Sleepovers, Neshota Park, lots of roller skating, gymnastics, summer camp, wood-burning, bike rides, a family vacation to South Dakota….I was always doing something even if my diary said otherwise.
