This post is a part of the Fantabulous Fall Favorites blog chain put together by a great group of bloggers. The theme this week is treats. Be sure to check out all the great ideas shared at the end of this post!
Last weekend it was too early to trick or treat. It was also bad timing for us to go to the pumpkin patch, but we wanted to do something in the Halloween spirit so we came up with I Scream Sundaes and a Scare-a-thon.
We bought the supplies Friday night. It was torture for P to repeatedly pass them all day Saturday. The candy corn and sprinkles were calling him and he couldn’t resist. Finally Saturday afternoon (because he couldn’t even make it until sunset) I gave in and we started work on our I Scream Sundaes.
If you’d also like to have a fun Halloween-themed night, here are P’s instructions.
Make an I Scream Sundae
- Get creepy cups. Ours are from the Dollar Spot at Target.
- Scoop vanilla ice cream into your creepy cups. This is your ghost barf. (Remember these are my son’s instructions, not mine!)
- Add candy corn for vampire teeth.
- Add candy pumpkins for, well, pumpkins.
- To finish up, sprinkle autumn-themed sprinkles for ashes from a fire.
I could have (and would have) made a healthier version using jam for blood and raisins for bugs, but P thought more children would like their sundaes better with lots of candy. I’m sure he was being entirely altruistic.
Sorta Spooky Scare-a-Thon
P’s simple instructions:
- Pick your movies. Scary movies, but not too scary movies. Scooby Doo is good.
- Turn off the lights.
- Get your blankets and pillows
- Sit on the floor with your I Scream Sundae and start the Scare-a-thon.
- If you want, make a Halloween craft while you watch the movies. We did.
Do you want to know a secret? I had a blast! I put away the tablet, stowed the phone, and settled in with P. I felt like I was 8 years old again, eating my sundae and watching Scooby Doo. It was great!

That sounds like so much fun! And I’m sure your son is right about your candy–but yours would have looked more scary 😉
Scary because it’s TOO healthy! LOL.
love how you added candy corn and halloween themed stuff to the ice cream. Scooby would be perfect for my family..the 10 yr old and 3 yr old both like him. 🙂 We’ll do this for our next Family Night!
And it’s not much work to prepare and cleanup (that’s my favorite part!).
The “I Scream” Sundaes looks very interesting. Don’t get me into the Scare-a-thon as i am easily scared, even with cartoon
I’m easily scared, too, but Scooby Doo I can handle 😉
I love those cups! It totally makes the whole sundae! What a fun treat! Thanks for sharing!
I love this! I have this super cool sundae bowl where you put all the fixings in separate sections. I’ve never used it but this would be a great reason to get it out 🙂
Pinning this…A very neat idea. So cool and looks like something to sit around and enjoy with a Friday evening movie:)
Thanks for the Pin!
I saw some very cool cups like this at the Dollar Tree today that’d be perfect! This is a really cute idea. And Scooby Doo and ice cream! Sounds divine.
The sundaes look too cute to eat. And I have to say that the Scooby Doo movies brought a smile to my face! Thanks so much for sharing!
This is a great idea! I think I need a good movie night with my kiddos! Thanks for the idea!
