“I Scream” Sundaes & a Sorta Spooky Scare-a-thon

This post is a part of the Fantabulous Fall Favorites blog chain put together by a great group of bloggers. The theme this week is treats. Be sure to check out all the great ideas shared at the end of this post!

I Scream Sundaes
Sugar shock here we come!

Last weekend it was too early to trick or treat. It was also bad timing for us to go to the pumpkin patch, but we wanted to do something in the Halloween spirit so we came up with I Scream Sundaes and a Scare-a-thon.

We bought the supplies Friday night. It was torture for P to repeatedly pass them all day Saturday. The candy corn and sprinkles were calling him and he couldn’t resist. Finally Saturday afternoon (because he couldn’t even make it until sunset) I gave in and we started work on our I Scream Sundaes.

If you’d also like to have a fun Halloween-themed night, here are P’s instructions.

Make an I Scream Sundae

  • Get creepy cups. Ours are from the Dollar Spot at Target.
  • Scoop vanilla ice cream into your creepy cups. This is your ghost barf. (Remember these are my son’s instructions, not mine!)
  • Add candy corn for vampire teeth.
  • Add candy pumpkins for, well, pumpkins.
  • To finish up, sprinkle autumn-themed sprinkles for ashes from a fire.

I could have (and would have) made a healthier version using jam for blood and raisins for bugs, but P thought more children would like their sundaes better with lots of candy. I’m sure he was being entirely altruistic.

Sorta Spooky Scare-a-Thon

P’s simple instructions:

  • Pick your movies. Scary movies, but not too scary movies. Scooby Doo is good.
  •  Turn off the lights.
  • Get your blankets and pillows
  • Sit on the floor with your I Scream Sundae and start the Scare-a-thon.
  • If you want, make a Halloween craft while you watch the movies. We did.

The amount of sugar in the sundaes was pretty spooky!

Do you want to know a secret? I had a blast! I put away the tablet, stowed the phone, and settled in with P. I felt like I was 8 years old again, eating my sundae and watching Scooby Doo. It was great!

  1. love how you added candy corn and halloween themed stuff to the ice cream. Scooby would be perfect for my family..the 10 yr old and 3 yr old both like him. 🙂 We’ll do this for our next Family Night!
