Not-So-Easy Easter Egg Hunts

Confession: I’m one of those moms. Every year I cook up an elaborate Easter egg hunt for our son. The theme changes each year to match his interests. It usually takes him about an hour to find all the eggs and solve the clues that eventually lead him to his Easter basket. I try to make it challenging, educational, and fun.

But why do I go to such lengths for an Easter Basket? It’s all about creating stealthy learning momentsAnd it’s what he loves most about Easter. It’s also what I love most. Creating the hunt is as much fun as watching him working on it. Here are a few of the Easter Egg Hunts we’ve done together.

This year’s hunt was all about fishing

Escape Room Hunt

Last year was probably the most elaborate…too elaborate. The poor kid almost cried. Don’t worry. I’ve learned from my mistake.

2017 Easter Egg Hunt
I carefully crafted a personalized escape room experience. Football, Packers, code-cracking…P nearly didn’t “escape” (or collect an Easter basket)

Cracking the Easter Code

Crack the Code Easter Egg Hunt
This was by far the cutest hunt we did.

Pokemon Hunt

This year I had him do all kinds of math word problems…and he liked it. Mostly.

 SurvivalCraft Hunt

He might be the only kid his age that was never into Minecraft…

This is STILL his favorite hunt of all time!

Happily, the egg hunts have become about more than candy, more than consumption and “getting.” Ultimately, it’s another way to stay connected.

As my son gets older, I keep expecting him to lose interest in our annual egg hunts. So far he’s still (REALLY) into them. I’ll keep creating them until he’s not. What so you think he’ll be into at 37?

Happy Easter!
