My First Science Fair

Science Fair Books
Ok, so it’s also my son’s first Science Fair, but it IS mine as well. I never had to participate in one as a child. A a child, science was pretty much all hands on, all the time, both in and out of school. To say that I need to contain my excitement is an understatement. I mean, we’re talking science, poster boards, and data! I’m trying really hard not to overwhelm P with my enthusiasm. I’m also trying (we’re talking Herculean effort here) not to steer him towards a certain experiment. To make that happen, I reserved about 20 (or 30) books about science experiments from the library, checked them out, and handed them to him (no enthusiasm there, ahem) with a stack of sticky notes and instructions to mark anything that looked interesting.

24 hours after I handed him the books, my sticky notepad is much smaller, P and I already did one experiment, and he’s making up his own experiments. He just grabbed my husband on his way through the living room and has him working on parachute experiments with plastic grocery bags, my embroidery floss, tape and army guys. It’s pretty clear that P loves science. I’m not sure how he’ll be able to choose just one experiment for his first (mine, too!) science fair.
