While I’m more than happy to stay home reading, baking, writing, napping…my son is an extrovert. He’s extra extroverted. We’re getting creative at finding ways for us to stay connected.
Normally we spend Sunday evenings with my parents. We visit, eat, play games, and get outside. Like many people, we started social distancing this weekend. So last night instead of visiting in person, we ate “together”, played a couple of rounds of Yahtzee, and talked using Skype. Yahtzee worked really well. Now I’m pulling together other ideas of games and activities we can play with friends and family via video chat. Here’s what we’ve come up with so far.
- Story Cubes (or make your own story stones)
- Group storytelling game
- Draw together
- Make Me Laugh
- Name Ten
- Fact or Fiction
- Questions Only
- Never Have I Ever
- 20 Questions
- Guess My Animal (Like 20 Questions but only with animals)
- Hokey Pokey
- Red Light Green Light
- The Alphabet Game
- I Spy
- Conversation Questions/Table Talk
- Would You Rather?
- BINGO
- Yahtzee
- Apples to Apples
- Battleship
- Charades
- Read books aloud
Use Skype, FaceTime, Messenger, whatever you can do. Some of these will work without video, so if you can’t stream, you can turn speakerphone on.
What other games might work via Skype, FaceTime, etc.? Hit me with your best ideas! I’ll add them to the list!
