You know how moms (er, me) always document the first day of school with a (now) pinteresting photo of their kids scrubbed up and shiny, dressed and ready for their new school year? Well, it’s time to turn that camera around!
- Get your chalkboards and dry erase boards out.
- Uncap those markers, breathe in the chalk dust and write, “First day of First Grade for Mom”.
- Hand the camera over to the kiddos and smile, weep, whatever you do/feel on the first day of school.
- Don’t get gussied up, show the true “morning mom”. See how I didn’t do retakes? I left my thumb in all the photos to capture the true “we’re late and we have to cram these pictures in before you get marked tardy so hurry up!” feel of the first day of school. And I totally forgot to make my own sign…
These will be the keepers in 20 years. Don’t forget to document yourself as you document your children’s lives!
You know, I’ve never taken a first day pic of my kiddo! School has been … er … a challenge for us, a lot. So maybe I need to change my tune next year and do it! Thanks for sharing!
The photos were a challenge for us yesterday, but he knows, the first day of school is non-negotiable for photos! LOL.
