I started the summer with good intentions:
Third grade- this year- was our son’s best school year yet. We want to keep that momentum going, but let’s be honest, a bridge workbook isn’t going to do the trick. There’s no way a book of worksheets can compete with all the summer fun calling his name. It’s tough to combat, but I’m not about to let Summer Slide win!
Last year I created a summer full of Lewis & Clark themed activities to make summer learning more appealing. The year before, we had a Poem Gnome. This year, I’m capitalizing on his love of mythical creatures & monsters with Cryptozoology Case Files. Follow along on our epic summer adventure or do the activities with your own kids.”
I wouldn’t start a project like this “just for a post”. This is stuff I like to do. I love researching, getting creative, and feeding my son’s curiosity. This summer though, we moved. And I watched my parents’ dog for four weeks. And we had soccer games to go to twice a week and, and, and. Did I mention birthday parties, camping, and scouts? There just isn’t enough time. So I decided time spent reading together is good enough for the rest of the summer.
Chances are, we’ll still read and talk quite a bit about cryptids. We’ll just do it in between field trips…and without a deadline.
Want to do the short, five week version of the Cryptid Case Files?
Start here: Cryptid Case File One: Zombies.
There’s no deadline and there’s no reason you can’t save the Cryptid Case Files for cold winter days.
