Today I discovered the Milwaukee Public Museum has an indoor butterfly garden. I *knew* they had one, I just didn’t think of it as a reason to go to the museum. You guys, it was fantastic!
I relaxed instantly when I walked into the humid and misty butterfly habitat. My heart rate slowed. My breathing slowed. My sense of wonder, though, took off.
If you were patient enough, you could sit on a bench and wait for a butterfly to land on you. Me, not so much.
I had to check it all out, from the incubator full of butterflies in all stages of development, to the “hidden” feeder (plates of pineapple) behind the trees. And butterflies were everywhere- on the ceiling, in the trees, on flowers, even on a baby’s head.
The whole experience was just magical.
It was definitely family friendly, but this field trip should not be limited to families! We saw a teenage couple clearly on a date, a pair of amateur photographers, and if I lived close enough I’d go alone any time I needed to relieve stress.
