Where’s Grandpa? A hidden pictures game for family

Where's Grandpa: A Hidden pictures game for family | Life as a Field Trip

It all started with photos of my dad trimming trees.

My nephew lives across the country. For most of the year we can’t see each other in person so of course, I get creative. I post photos so the half of our family that isn’t with us can be included in our weekend adventures up north.

I posted these photos to Facebook from my phone during the first day of our long weekend for my three-year-old nephew. I captioned it, “Tell C we have a new game called “Where’s Grandpa?”

C found Grandpa in the pictures entirely too easily so I stepped up my game.

There’s just one person hiding here.

Some people (Mom, that’s you), thought they were too difficult for a three-year-old, but he’s sharper than the average three-year-old.

Two people are hiding in this photo.

It turned out other people liked looking for my hidden family members too. Maybe even a little more than the three-year-old.

There are three people hidden in this photo.

Then my mom and dad started getting ideas for hidden  picture setups. Between the three of us we had more photo ideas than one poor, bombarded three-year-old could possibly process in one weekend.

There’s just one child in this picture.

It’s something I’m going to continue doing while we’re out on our field trip adventures. I’m not very good about phone calls or even Skype, for that matter. The Bad Aunt Guilt is crushing me. I like finding new ways to stay connected with  family.

I can see us doing these photos while we’re on vacation, if we go to the beach for the day, or any time we’re in a crowded area. It’s a fun way to stay connected with family across the miles.

  1. I loved searching for the people over the weekend with your nephew…sounds like a bunch of us were entertained by your ‘I Spy’ pics. Can’t wait until you do it again. 🙂

  2. Love this! What a great idea!! We have family that lives on the other side of the country too, so we might just have to start our own game 😉
