Throwback Thursday: Accepting Compliments

It’s always harder to receive compliments than give them, don’t you think?

This morning I read a Huffington Post article about authenticity, Six Signs You’re a Truly Genuine Person.  #4 (You openly give and receive compliments) reminded me instantly of my Grandma Betty.

I don’t know if I show all six signs of being genuine, but I have #4 down pat thanks to this woman. She taught me how to graciously accept compliments (I’m still working on the gracious part) and that it’s important to not discount the compliment or the giver of the compliment by saying things like, “You’re just saying that.” She helped me to always smile and say, “Thank you” and I’m glad she did. I think of her every single time I respond to a compliment with “Thank you.”

Did your grandparents have a big influence on you? How? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
