Eleven Family-Friendly Fishing Spots in Brown County

Fishing is my new normal. Okay, well, reading while my son fishes is my new normal.

We didn’t always spend this much time fishing. I had no interest in fishing so he decided to teach himself to fish. Now he’s a fishing fool. I swear he looks for fish in parking lot puddles as we walk by. If he could, he would spend every day standing at the edge of a lake holding his fishing pole.

We’re not ready for him to fish on his own which means one of us (usually me) gets to go along. Variety may be the only thing keeping me sane. This summer, instead of fishing ALL THE TIME at Voyageur Park or Osprey Point, I’m trying to mix it up. To my surprise, there are plenty of shore fishing options in Brown County.

Tried and True

Voyageur Park

Voyageur Park is definitely our go-to fishing spot. It’s close, has restrooms, benches, and it’s great for people watching.

Osprey Point

This is P’s second favorite because he’s guaranteed to catch fish. There are two stocked ponds and they are busting at the seams with fish. He’s even caught fish by dangling a long dandelion over the water! The land is owned by the Izaak Walton League. A membership is required to fish the ponds, but P says the $17 membership fee is well worth it.

Lily Lake

Wildlife Sanctuary

We don’t fish here as often, but it has its advantages. If the fish aren’t biting, the ducks and geese are. Put away the poles and buy a bag of corn to feed the ducks and geese and the day isn’t a total loss. And, like all four of our favorite fishing spots, the Wildlife Sanctuary makes a good picnic spot.

Fishing Bucket List

There are several other fishing spots in the area we just learned about.

P has been to the Reforestation Camp near the NEW Zoo and Pamperin Park on school fishing trips. He liked them both and wants to head back.

Friends of ours fish often at the Brown County Fairgrounds.

And we just discovered you can fish at Bay Shore Park, Way-Morr Park, Wrightstown Park, and the Suamico Boat LaunchWe have a few fishing field trips to go on this summer!

Where are your favorite local fishing holes?
